I feel like there's a difference between harshly criticizing Sanderson for the moral implications of donating to the church vs being mean because his prose is boring and people like his books anyway.
you didn't mention it, but I think this could be very easily applied to the near sociopathic COVID denialism in liberal/left spheres nowadays and the absolutely violent refusal to accept any responsibility for knowingly spreading a deadly and debilitating virus. I see so many disabled and immunocompromised people get shouted down for not being "nice" enough when begging people to wear fucking masks so that we can participate in public life. it's so disgusting and unserious.
